    We are looking for a high caliber Associate General Counsel in China, Beijing office. The successful incumbent is responsible for drafting, negotiating and revising contracts or other legal documents in order to avoid or resolve litigation. He/she needs to demonstrate a high level of experience in litigation matters and represent the corporation at depositions, hearings and trials. He/she will conduct assignments of high controversy and/or economic impact. Reviews complex legal data and advises organization on appropriate legal action to be taken. Responsibilities include ensuring client satisfaction, interfacing with internal and external clients and translating their needs into plans and actions, managing cross-functional teams, and directing innovation to enhance regional leadership.

    The successful incumbent will report directly to the SVP, Chief Legal Officer and be responsible for the following,


    • Manages legal litigation matters pertaining to the organization and represents the organization at depositions, hearings and trails, defends and prosecutes for corporation in litigation.
    • Determines the most effective strategy for prosecution or defense in litigation, and maintains an awareness of existing and proposed legislation in local, national, and international compliance, statures and laws
    • Assesses the likelihood and magnitude of risk in antitrust, commercial and contract disputes, product liability, personal injury, employment law and other subject matters and prepares recommendations to reduce the liability exposure of the UL family of companies. Conducts legal research as needed 
    • Maintains information essential to the function such as local, national and international statues and laws, cases in litigation, contracts, leases, internal manuals and documents
    • Prepares contracts, agreements, correspondence, memoranda or briefs, appellate briefs, motions, and pleadings. Recommends corrective action when areas of non-compliance with local, national and international statures and laws are brought to the attention of the Legal Department.  
    • Reviews internal manuals, public statements, and contracts from a legal standpoint. Conducts legal research by studying proposed and existing laws and statutes to ensure compliance with such law
    • Performs other duties as directed.



    • University Degree in Law, Bar membership in good standing, with a minimum of five years with a law firm and 2 years in a corporate environment;
    • Working knowledge in negotiating contract and represent the Company in order to resolve or avoid litigation;
    • Demonstrated ability to influence and negotiate skillfully in tough situations with both internal and external groups in order to achieve desired outcomes without damaging relationships
    • Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills’ distinctive ability to interact with all levels of management, clients and suppliers; good proficiency in English.
    • Culturally sensitive, a team player who can exhibit strong leadership, and be able to motivate team
    • Applies judgment and acts according to the UL mission and standards of ethics and integrity
